There are a number of ways Mr Curtis can identify possible causes of fertility concerns, to advise on the most suitable treatment options.
Blood tests can be performed to get a better understanding of the physiological conditions that affect fertility. These include:
- day 2-6 of the cycle: FSH, LH, prolactin, cortisol and oestradiol
- day 21 progesterone: to assess ovulation
Many of these investigations may have already been performed by your general practitioner which Mr Curtis can review and report on.
Semen analysis to assess:
USS to assess for structural abnormalities within the uterus or ovarian cysts may be done at any time of the cycle.
USS to assess for ovulation must be performed at the middle of the cycle to assess the number and size of dominant follicles as well as the endometrial thickness
This is a procedure where dye is inserted into the cervix and X-rays performed to assess the passage of the dye through the uterus, the outline of the uterine cavity and the patency and size of the fallopian tubes.
This surgical procedure is conducted under general anaesthetic and a telescope is inserted into the abdominal cavity to assess the internal organs. It can be used to diagnose many different conditions, including:
The length of procedure varies and photographs are usually taken. Treatment may be performed at that time, if planned in advance, particularly where conditions such as endometriosis or ovarian cysts are suspected.
A test of tubal patency can be performed during a laparoscopy. Dye is injected into the uterus and if there is no tubal blockage the dye should pass freely along the fallopian tubes and out into the abdomen.
